Being an Advocate of Your Health through Medical Malpractice

Written on: 04 Jun 09 and Filed under: Advice

Unfortunately, incidences of medical negligence have become much more commonplace that in the past. Some of this change might be attributed to the fact that patients are becoming more of an advocate for themselves. While it is impossible to prevent an irresponsible medical practitioner from making an error, there are things patients can do to help prevent the change of injuries occurring due to medical negligence.
In general, patients have a choice as to where and by whom they wish to receive medical treatment. In some situations, their choices may be limited by insurance requirements. However, these situations still offer a choice of several physicians. Knowing the names of potential physicians can allow patients to be active participants in their own health care. For instance, they can conduct research on specific doctors to determine their reputation. There are many online forums that are unbiased where patients can report dealings, both positive and negative; they have had with certain doctors. Another great resource is friends and family. These usually are people you already trust so they can be relied upon to give you useful advice. Before getting a procedure or seeing a specialist, doing a little research can also be helpful. This isn’t so you can diagnosis you own problem but just to get more information about the general area of the body that is the concern.
Another thing patients can do to help them from being victims of medical negligence is simply to share important information regarding their health with their doctor. Some patients prefer to keep certain information private. While the information may seem irrelevant, other health conditions or medications being taken can impact a procedure or cause side effects. Letting your physician know of your medications is important as well. Even with these precautions, sometimes medical negligence is just going to happen. If it does, it is important to get advice from a solicitor regarding your possible medical negligence claim.

Thanks for that article. I agree with the part about mold – it’s the most unhealthy part about water damage unless it’s sewage water then there are also diseases like Hep-A to worry about.

Mold helps decompose leaves, wood and more in a natural setting, so mold will break down the materials of your home, as it does in nature.
