This ‘Full Bar’ Thing, Are They Serious??? A Cheaper Way to Lose Weight

Written on: 05 Aug 08 and Filed under: Advice

Have you seen the commercials on TV or seen on the web about these Full Bars? You eat this bar and Drink 8oz of water 30 minutes before you eat and you will eat less food and lose weight. Are you kidding me? This is the biggest joke since the pet rock!

The logic has truth to it. By eating 3oz or so of natural food and a large glass of water and wait some time before you eat, you will eat less. Not only have you given your body a chance to take in a semi-filling meal, but you could also work to speed up metabolism. This isn’t really anything new, but some guy is now advertising a way to do it. I was thrilled at first, then I went to the web site. The bars are all natural, but really not full of much! There is soy protein added for protein, not a lot of fiber, a small anount of a few vitamins, and they are being sold for like $3 a peice! Are you serious?

The theory here does work, and I would advise people to try it but forget blowin $3 on that guys lame bar. Instead take a look a Clif Bar
http://www.clifbar.com/food/products_clif_bar/
When you are taking in less food you still need the same amount of Vitamins, Minerals, and everything else. Just from looking at the Clif Bar you can see all of the good stuff they have in there.

I even have a better idea. Why don’t you try this tactic with a peice of bread that is very high in Fiber. Find the loaf of bread with the most amount of Fiber and some vitamins and such, eat a slice 30 minutes before you eat and see how you do.

Asian culture has been doing similar things in their daily diet for years. For example, the Japanese traditionally have Miso Soup and some type of salad like Sea Weed salad about 10-15 minutes before the meal comes out. In this case you are taking in some Fiber, warm liquid to warm the digestion, minerals in the soup and allows you to not start eating on a totally empty stomach.

As a recovering overeater myself, researching Full Bar reminds me that during periods where I find myself trying to fall back into binge eating I need to find a way to deal with a stomach that has been stretched from years of over consumption. It may be all natural, but there is a lot of sugar in these Full Bars. It’s probably a lot less sugar than what an obese person would consume if they filled their enlarged stomach with the “normal” meal that they intend to eat within a few minutes of eating this bar, but still. Similar results could probably be gained from a few slices of sprouted “Ezekiel” bread for a lot less money ($4 p/loaf) and just as much or more nutrients.

Compare one serving of Full Bar with two servings of Ezekiel 4:9 Sesame bread from the Food for Life company.

Full Bar – Cocoa Chip (all natural, but processed and not certified organic)

Serving Size (45g)
Calories 170
Calories from Fat 25
Total Fat 3g
Saturated Fat 2g
Trans Fat 0g
Cholesterol 0mg
Sodium 105mg
Total Carbohydrate 31g
Dietary Fiber 4g
Sugars 13g
Protein 5g

Ezekiel 4:9 (flourless, sprouted, organic grain bread – no sugars from processed ingredients)

2 Slices:

Serving Size (68g)
Calories 160
Calories from Fat 10
Total Fat 1g
Saturated Fat 0g
Trans Fat 0g
Cholesterol 0mg
Sodium 150mg
Total Carbohydrates 30.0g
Dietary Fiber 6.0g
Sugars 0g
Protein 8.0g

Ezekiel bread is about $4 for 20 slices. In my example here, that’s between 40 and 50 cents per “dose” as opposed to a $3 Full Bar.

I am currently using the full bar, and they are working wonders for me. The amount of food I eat now has been cut in half if not less. They work, and I know they work because I am using them.

Thank you for your comments. I have written clearly in my post that I KNOW the full bar theory works!
I am concerned not only with COST, but with the fact that they are nutritionally ABSENT!
Of course those bars taste pretty good I am sure, but at least some other ideas listed have an adequate amount of Vitamins and Minerals to replace what your not taking in from food.

I sure am glad I read up on this bogus new diet plan before I bought into it. I was all ready with credit card in hand, but my better judgment took over. This doctor is just a weight loss preditor, thriving on us very desparate on losing weight.I may just try a Kellogs All-Bran bar 3o min. before meals.Calories 130, Fat 5gr,Col. 5mg, Sodium 105 mg,Potassium 75mg,and oh ya, it is just like the comercial. They really do takes great. So far oatmeal cinnamon is my fav. Try them, MUCH cheaper on the pockerbook!!!!!!!!! E.T.

I got no money for full bar to say it.
But I have to say that it works. Since I start eating it I can go without feel hungry for hours.
For instance: If I have one at 11:30 and have my lunch at 12:00 besides the fact that I eat way less I can go until 6:00 or 7:00 PM feeling not hungry at all,(no crave at 10:00 or 11:00 anymore) I just need 1 bar, I feel afraid to eat another one at dinner time and loose to much wait, since I just need to loose just another 5 pounds
The only think that I dislike is the taste and the size of the bar (too big)after eat it is hard to take a full glass of water, but I do it because is really worth.

Dr. Snyder recently came out with a new product in addition to FullBar – it’s called Aquafull: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yce61YRU3SE&feature=channel_page

I have been looking at this full bar for awhile
but I just can’t get myself to pay that much for a bar. I don’t have a problem with eating large meals I just have a problem with getting hungry before I eat again, and of course snacking will the fullbar help with that.

I want to try FullBars. Whether it works or not will be the question. It just seems everyone who is against it, has some other agenda in mind for everyone to try. So I’m going to be foolish and try it. And it may be the wisest thing I have ever done. I guess I won’t know until I am the one that actually tries it.

I purchased a box of 6 Full Bars at my local Wal-Greens for a whopping $1.99! I decided it was worth a try. I’m not sure why they were so cheap there.

John | May 15th, 2009 at 6:26 pm

Look up Facevalues.com. They sell the Full bars for 1.49

Ate my first full bar this am. I am starving right now! When do they kick in?

Paula | September 11th, 2009 at 11:28 pm

I bought some Fiber One bars. I compared to full bar, and there is not much difference. I think I might try using them. They run around $4.74 for 10 at walmart. Thats less than .50 a piece.

I love the full bars. They are expensive, but they seem worth it. I am not someone that simply overeats. I am an emotional eater and therefore can eat a whole box of bars (like the fiber one bars) in one sitting. For some reason, I do not do this with the full bar. AND I can replace lunch with it and not be hungry all day. I suppose it really depends on how you use the bar. I like it for its benefits to me personally. It may even be worth $1.50 per bar if it keeps me full and keeps me from binging. Anything to stay at 1000 calories per day!

I am going to try the Full Bar. They were created by Dr Snyder. He lives in my area. He is an awesome Bariatric surgeon.

My daughter and I went to a Bariactric surgery seminar he had recently. I was very impressed with everything he said. He has, so far, done 1500 surgeries related to either gastric bypass or lap band.

He really knows his stuff, which brings me to the reason I am posting. He has many folks who testified about his surgery and also his Full Bars. I trust the Full bar because it is created by Dr Snyder. Of course he wants to make money with these Full Bars, but he has a huge, kind heart and really loves helping people who are overweight. He really believes in his Full Bars.

My daughter is scheduled for his lap band surgery in the coming three months.

Fiber One bars are totally different. They almost like laxatives, so be careful. I bought a box of Full Bars from Cotsco – (I think it was $16 for 20 bars). I ate one at about 11:30am, instead of looking for something salty to munch on. It made be feel incredibly full. It really feels like it expands in your stomach, like a sponge, and as time passes, you feel fuller. I ate my lunch at 12:30 and I was only able to eat half of it. However at about 3:00pm, I ate the other half. Which is still better than the bag of chips or candy that I would usually reach for in the afternoon.
It is not meant to be a meal replacement. I’ve only used it for 2 days – will check my weight tomorrow. A wise person once told me; If you wanna lose weight, don’t put the food in your mouth.

I bought a box at Wal-Mart for almost $8.00. I ate my first bar this morning at 11:30, and at Noon I ate half of a peanut butter sandwich. It is 5:00 p.m. right now and I haven’t had anything else to eat and I’m not feeling hungry at all. The bar was delicious!

Dustin | November 30th, 2009 at 7:57 pm

I would not recommend to anyone eating a full bar because, when i tried one i ate about half of the full bar and had a glass of water and it worked effectively, but three hours later i had some of the worst gas that i have experienced in my life.

Dorothy | December 23rd, 2009 at 12:33 am

If you want to eat something with fiber to fill you up instead of an expensive bar with 4 grams of fiber how about an apple, which has the same amount of fiber or even better 3 figs which have 10.5 grams. Taster and better for you.

24
sandi | December 30th, 2009 at 4:43 pm

I also purchased mine at walgreens, but they were 2 for 3.oo…still pretty cheap…that is about 14.00 a week for a diet plan.
And it works. I have lost ten pounds and I am not hungry ever……I do take vitamins along with this diet…because there is not any in the bar and since I am eating much less I think I need to take the vitamins.

Marisa | January 10th, 2010 at 4:08 am

I just started researching the “full bar” and it sound totally bogus! Wal-mart sells their version of a fiber one bar for $2 for a box of 6 and they have 9 grams of fiber…if you drink that with a full glass of water i bet you’ll be full (and your wallet won’t be empty)!! Good luck

26
Karen | January 21st, 2010 at 8:57 pm

You can go on the FullBar website, if you exit the site after going to attempt to check out (but dont) they off you 50% off your order. They have a package where the bars are 1.50 each. So after the 50% off they are $75 each. They also have chip like snacks and truffles, not just bars.

Okay, now, factor in you are about to eat less…. isnt’ that worth a deduction?

For me, they work. So well that I’m no longer doing nutrisystem! I only do 1 for my big meal dinner time.

Another thing that helps are the protein/fiber drinks to-go you mix with water. A good one is Special K. They are zero calorie but have 5 fiber and 5 protein.

Between that and the full bar I am eating far less junk. Getting in my healthiest foods without feeling like I have to snack all day long.

Damn…I’m with you Dustin – The bar was great and worked and cheap and SAM”s But the gas…lord have mercy

Jenny | February 17th, 2010 at 5:10 pm

I bought the bars at WalMart last night for only $6.74 for a box of 6. The website was more expensive. For $1.12 a bar I will try it out. it was tasty.

Jamie | February 18th, 2010 at 10:41 pm

Hmmm not sure about the full bar but the way i see it it might be cheaper.

1.50 for a bar and be full and loose 10 pounds.
Or blow 5 bucks on myself at McDonald (which i tend to do because i have horrid cravings)and gain 10 pounds.

Hmm that’s a tough one. *sarcasm intended*

If you eat less your spending less money on all the food you usually consume. Yeah, the bar is expensive but if you eat very little during the day you are generally going to spend less on grocery’s.

Then again i have no one but Myself to feed, so I guess its different for mothers.

ummsoy protein? soy makes man boobs lowers libido and makes women fat…and with 45 grams of carbs are you kidding????fat fat fattening!
Knew I shouldnt eat this ClifBar
who pays you?

32
Sean | December 16th, 2010 at 6:22 am

First of all soy and soy protein DO NOT give a man boobs, lower libido and make women fat. Soy has phytoestrogens in it that actually do the opposite. GMO soy has hormones in it that is actual estrogen, this is what happens when you buy low quality soy. Then again, there is far worse stuff than that in milk and other animal products you are eating.

Secondly, the Cliff Bar listed above is listed as 45g of carbs and is a 68g bar.
Your full bar is a 45g bar and 31g of carbs. So lets see here….. It looks like your full bar is 69% carbs and the cliff bar is 66% carbs. Secondly the cliffbar is an energy bar and carbs are energy, plus with double the protein the Cliffbar will burn off more of the calories with better energy.

The point in the article above, if you read it, states that the main reason for pointing out a Cliff Bar over a Full Bar was for cost & for vitamin and mineral content. Anytime you are using meal replacement products they should also be replacing vitamins and nutrients you would get from the food. I could have easily used Slim fast as an example, but cliff bar supports organic sources, is a green company and gives back alot of profit.
