When Alternative Medicine Works

Written on: 28 Aug 10 and Filed under: Articles

It’s not something that medical doctors believe in, but then, if alternative medicine did not work, it wouldn’t have the hundreds of thousands of followers it has today. There are various forms of alternative medicine – some are based on herbal remedies, some use massage and relaxation therapy to cure, and yet others try to restore the energy balance of the body. They work because the people who trust in them believe that they will work. However, even if you’re not too big a fan of alternative medicine, there are times when it does do you a world of good.

  • When you’re in debilitating pain: Techniques like massages and acupuncture work wonders when you’re in pain and not ready to put your body through another dose of painkillers, you could try them. They’re not painful, they don’t have any after-effects, and they’re pretty cost-effective. They help you relax and forget the pain, and a few sessions could leave you completely pain-free.
  • When you want a remedy without the side effect: There are some conditions that don’t demand cures, like a woman’s monthly periods; you want medication so you can just get through the pain and discomfort for three to five days. However, most drugs cause side effects and are not recommended unless you’re unable to function at all. This is when you try alternative therapies like herbal supplements and teas – a qualified practitioner can have you up and about in no time at all with the right blend of herbs and powders.
  • When your ailment is mental: Conditions like depression, anxiety and stress are not really illnesses; of course, they do become worse and require medical intervention if left untreated. However, most people who suffer from these conditions find relief in alternative therapies, and because of this, they prevent their situation from deteriorating.
  • When you can trust the source: Whatever kind of medicinal therapy or treatment you follow, it works only when the source is efficient and trustworthy. If your doctor is inept or if your pharmacy cheats you with fake drugs, you’re not going to get better or find a cure for your illness. The same holds true in the case of alternative medicine – if the practitioner who treats you is not qualified and if the concoctions you’re given have not been tested adequately, you’re not going to find this form of medicine favorable. However, if you can trust the source of the treatment, then you find that alternative medicine does work, sometimes wonders. This guest post is contributed by Maryanne Osberg, who writes on the topic of RN to MSN Online Degrees.

Beware of these drugs, since in findrxonline say that there are medicines which are prescription drugs that should only be taken with prescription medications such as Vicodin, hydrocodone, lortab, among others, that must be taken with observation of a doctor.

I have total respect for he medical profession, but God gave us everything we need on this earth, from this earth, in this earth to heal us. I used to suffer from bowel problems, actually passing out on the toilet. I wasn’t aware that other people didn’t do this; you usually don’t talk about these habits around the dinner table. I was forty-eight when I was first introduced to organic whole foods and raw vegetable juicing, which literally saved my life. I know I was headed toward bowel cancer. Don’t be afraid to try alternative (natural) methods of health care. Don’t be persuaded by medical doctors; reach out to what’s out there: people who are stewards of the earth’s natural resource. They can help!

Traditional western medical doctors, not all of them but some of them are starting to take a turn towards alternative medicine. Right now I think its amazing that MD’s are even starting to recommend alternative medicine to complement traditional medicine. However with alternative medicine continuing to grow, I think more and more people will shy away from traditional medicine and it will force traditional physicians to have to take a look at alternative medicines.

“Alternative” medicine is an accepted and useful practice in most cultures.

You say they work because the people who trust in them believe they will work. This is not the only reason why alternative medicine works. Herbal remedies have been around for centuries and in fact many modern day pharmaceutical drugs are based on herbs – although of course messed around with so that they can be patented and sold. I am a health practitioner and do not find that the patient’s belief is required for the work that I do to help.
Of course belief has a big influence.. as the placebo effect is very well known in all types of healing work – both that of the medical doctor and the alternative health practitioner. But it is not essential to the process.

TO see the truth of who is actually curing disease one must not look any further that where the money goes. Big pharma bribes politicians through lobbiest to make law protecting the profits of their treatment methods. while creating scam agencies such as the FDA and FTC to protect there profits even more. Mainstream medicin is a joke. I will be alternative forever.

Herbs and alternative treatments are not a panacea, a fast fixit for all that ails you but then neither are the drugs from the doctors either.
A doctor prescribed drug is supposed to be proven by randomised controlled trials, but many aren’t and even those that are the word “proven” means that it is unlikely to be caused by chance, not that it will be helpful for the majority of people. As one example: statin drugs that reduce cholesterol have not been proven to work for women or those over 60 years (read the research in detail if you don’t believe me) and for men without pre-existing heart disease you have to treat 250 men for 5 years to stop one heart attack and it doesn’t prevent many of them. It has been proven to work, but do you want to take a drug with side effects like that for 5 years with such a low rate of effectiveness?
There are none so unsceptical as those sceptical of alternate health therapies. They should demand equal clinical effectiveness of drugs and vaccines.

Traditional medicine may be advanced, but it doesn’t have all the answers to everything about health and staying healthy. If you’re faced with a situation where you can’t find the answers or you don’t like the answers you were given, natural herbal remedies, natural treatments, natural cures, herbal supplements, herbal products, herbal product, natural remedies, herbal remedies you now have a choice. You can find a natural herbal supplement instead of always choosing a drug.
